    My chicks are taking long to hatch. it is now 24 days, how do i help?

    Thanks for your concern, however, assisting a chick should be your last resort. A chick’s failure to progress normally at hatching stage can be caused by genetic problems resulting in malpositioning, deformities or weakness, in which case assistance may promote the survival of birds with deleterious genes.

    If your chick has pipped a hole in the shell, do not intervene for at least 12 hrs. It’s at this point that it’s difficult to judge when intervention is both necessary and safe.

    I also think you should sometimes help your hens to sit on all eggs. At times the eggs a quite many of others may get from under it therefore not warmed evenly as the rest.

    If you are using an artificial incubator, you will have to just make sure the temperatures are maintained well and the eggs turned as recommended by the vets, manufacturers and producers.
