I purchased 3 gilts and 3 barrows at 6 weeks old. i intend to keep a couple of the gilts for breeding. They are presently around 120 or so weight wise.

Last week I purchased a registered Hereford boar at 70 lbs who is a few days younger than the gilts. I have him segregated within the lot as the gilts are aggressive toward him.

My question is can he be put with the other six at some point or should he be kept separate? I do not believe he will be ready to do any breeding due to his age and size…but correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks much for any suggestions!

Do not mix him with the other females all at once. They will attack him. If you want to breed bring her to him but keep an eye out. If shes ready you will know. Wouldn’t try until hes about 8 months or so. Some people say six so its up to you

Usually I wait for about 7 months before introducing a new boar.
