Do I need housing for free range system?

I have a good piece of land where i plan to carry out free range system of grazing cows. Do i still need to construct cattle shades?

According to our local way of grazing, there were no shades made for cows unless they were for calves and sick animals. I dont think you need them.

We are no longer Indigenous my dear. I would suggest you construct shades for the night. And during the dry season you might need to embrace some zero grazing. So you need the shades too.

It all depends on what idea you have in mind. Do you plan to free range all year long or for a season.

If your idea is purely free range, you might need to have more trees on the farm to provide shades for your cows in the hot seasons.
